PSV head into Sunday’s meeting with FC Utrecht with momentum, a packed fixture list and several transfer decisions still to make.

With Noah Fernandez impressing, Sven Mijnans and Paul Wanner could again find themselves on the bench, while Peter Bosz’s squad continues to evolve ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 5-1 victory over FC Groningen changed the mood around Eindhoven, but PSV's attention now turns to a demanding afternoon at De Galgenwaard. The performance of the midfield and Ruben van Bommel will be closely watched, while Bosz must also manage a squad containing several expensive summer investments.

Sven Mijnans, signed from AZ for €13 million, remained an unused substitute against Groningen, with Fernandez starting instead. Bosz insists that should not be interpreted as a setback for the midfielder.

“He’s doing really well,” Bosz said, as quoted by PSV Watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad.

“That comes as no surprise to me. We already gave him some playing time last season.”

Explaining why Mijnans did not enter the match, Bosz added: “I didn't bring Sven on because the scoreline was safe for us after halftime (5-1, ed.). If that hadn't been the case, he definitely would have played.”

Lutsharel Geertruida, who joined PSV on loan, could now be in contention for his first start. His debut came against Groningen after Bosz determined that he was ready.

“I let him make his debut last week because he was ready and the match situation allowed for it. That way, it was already out of the way,” Bosz explained.

His possible inclusion could see Ryan Flamingo move to the bench, adding another selection decision for Bosz before PSV face Ajax and then begin their Champions League campaign.

PSV are also working intensely on the transfer front. Esmir Bajraktarevic is allowed to leave, and his departure would create room for Sami Ouaissa of NEC.

PSV have already submitted a bid of more than €8 million for Ouaissa. Although a gap remains between the clubs, sources close to the negotiations indicated on Friday that it may be possible to bridge the difference. If everything goes according to plan, Ouaissa could arrive after the weekend.

No specific medical examination has yet been scheduled, although PSV's medical partner TopSupport is prepared for the arrival of new players.

PSV are simultaneously pursuing another striker in Sam Lammers, but Bosz declined to discuss the FC Twente forward while there is no agreement between the clubs.

“I wouldn't like it either if it involved one of our players in a similar situation,” Bosz said.

The club could also see further departures. Isaac Babadi and Adamo Nagalo remain candidates to leave, while Joël van den Berg has a potential move to Celtic that could be worth around €4 million.

PSV are also still interested in Ayoni Santos of Sparta, with that situation understood to be separate from Van den Berg’s future.

There could even be room for another high-level signing before the window closes. For now, however, Bosz is simply waiting for the transfer noise to disappear.

“About six more days,” he said.

“There used to be attention paid to it, too, but nowadays every player has an agent, and the media are all over it during this period.”

The coach added: “As a footballer, you want to be involved in matches; most players can muster some patience if they start on the bench, but there comes a point where that runs out. That’s something that has always been the case.”

With the transfer deadline approaching and Ajax and the Champions League waiting, PSV’s next few days promise to be as important off the pitch as Sunday’s test will be on it.
