A dramatic collapse at ADO Den Haag leaves the Eredivisie champions reeling, as disciplinary woes and a worrying head injury threaten to derail their crucial Champions League preparations.

PSV Eindhoven manager Peter Bosz has refused to hold Sven Mijnans responsible for the club’s damaging 2-1 defeat to ADO Den Haag, despite describing the midfielder’s red card as “stupid” and “unnecessary”.

The Eredivisie champions suffered their third consecutive away defeat on Saturday, following previous losses on the road against FC Twente and RB Leipzig. Mijnans’ dismissal shortly before half-time proved a significant turning point, while Guus Til’s injury added to Bosz’s concerns ahead of PSV’s Champions League trip to FC Porto on Tuesday.

Mijnans had given PSV the lead before receiving a second yellow card in the 43rd minute. Reduced to 10 men, the visitors struggled to maintain control as ADO fought back, eventually securing a dramatic victory with Matej Sin’s 93rd-minute winner.

Bosz acknowledged the midfielder’s mistake but insisted that personal blame was not the answer, stressing the importance of learning from the incident.

“It makes no sense to hold anything against people. That is not how I am as a person,” Bosz said, as quoted by Jeroen Kapteijns of De Telegraaf.

“I thought it was a stupid, unnecessary red card. He thought so himself too. The important thing is that he learns from it, so that it doesn't happen to him again. Knowing him, he is going to do just that.”

The dismissal means Mijnans will be suspended for PSV’s upcoming Eredivisie clash against Feyenoord, leaving Bosz with another selection problem as his side attempt to recover from a difficult run of results.

Guus Til Injury Raises Fresh Concerns for PSV

Mijnans’ sending-off was not the only setback for PSV in The Hague. Til had already been forced off before half-time after suffering a nasty fall in which he landed on his head.

The midfielder subsequently experienced vision problems and a migraine attack, with Bosz offering a concerning update after the match.

The PSV manager was unable to confirm whether Til would recover in time for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture away to FC Porto, leaving his availability in serious doubt.

Til’s potential absence would be another blow to a PSV side already struggling with injuries among its attacking options. His partnership with Mijnans had been important in Bosz’s makeshift forward line, but the duo were separated before the midfielder’s dismissal.

There could, however, be some positive news regarding Ruben van Bommel. The winger missed the ADO encounter, but PSV have not yet ruled out his availability for the trip to Portugal.

Bosz also explained that Mauro Júnior had been restricted to a set number of minutes against ADO and was substituted in the 69th minute to reduce the risk of injury.

Bosz Refuses to Panic Despite PSV’s Poor Run

Despite three defeats in PSV’s last four matches, Bosz insisted that he was not worried about his team’s overall performances.

The manager pointed to PSV’s display against RB Leipzig as evidence that results have not always reflected the quality of their football. He also viewed the defeat against ADO as avoidable, rather than a sign of deeper problems within the squad.

“I was at the match against Leipzig. And we played well there and conceded a silly goal. I also consider this an unnecessary goal that we conceded and an unnecessary defeat,” Bosz said.

He added that his concerns would be greater if PSV were failing to create opportunities or struggling with their basic play.

“If we hadn't created anything, played every ball to the wrong colour, and created absolutely no chances, then I would be worried.”

Bosz’s immediate challenge is to assess Til’s condition, determine whether Van Bommel can return and prepare his depleted squad for the trip to Porto. After consecutive away defeats and another damaging domestic result, PSV need a response, but their manager remains convinced that the performances offer reasons for confidence.
