PSV remain fully committed to signing Lutsharel Geertruida, with the defender keen on a move to Eindhoven and a loan agreement potentially close to resolution.

Lutsharel Geertruida has been one of the most persistent names around PSV throughout the summer, and the reigning Eredivisie champions have little intention of abandoning their pursuit.

The 26-year-old defender has been identified as PSV’s preferred defensive target for weeks.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, there is now still strong confidence within Eindhoven that a deal can be completed, provided RB Leipzig agree to the proposed loan structure.

Personal Agreement Already In Place

The groundwork for the move was laid surprisingly early. PSV and Geertruida held talks as far back as June, with the defender stressing that he was interested in joining Peter Bosz’s side.

A personal agreement has since been reached between Geertruida and PSV. The player himself is also understood to favour a one-season loan, rather than a permanent transfer.

That distinction is crucial.

A permanent move would be difficult for PSV to finance because of Geertruida’s salary at RB Leipzig, alongside the amortisation of any transfer fee and other associated costs. Over a five-year period, the total commitment could exceed €40 million, a figure PSV does not consider realistic.

A one-year loan, however, is regarded as financially acceptable. The remaining obstacle is therefore not the player but RB Leipzig.

The German club has yet to fully commit to the loan proposal. Some officials are reportedly open to allowing Geertruida to leave temporarily, while others believe Leipzig could still secure a significant fee through a permanent sale.

That uncertainty has contributed to delays, although there have been encouraging signals in recent days.

PSV maintains daily contact with Geertruida’s management and Leipzig. According to Elfrink, the Eindhoven club even sent a “reminder” to the German side on Sunday as it continues to push for progress.

PSV hopes to resolve the situation this week.

Why PSV Remains So Determined

Geertruida fits the profile PSV have been seeking to strengthen a defence that has been under scrutiny. His versatility, experience at the highest level and familiarity with Dutch football make him an attractive option for Bosz.

The player is also on Leipzig’s list of departures. If he remains committed to PSV as the transfer window approaches its conclusion, the German club could eventually have little incentive to retain a player who has no clear future in its squad.

The potential arrival of Geertruida would also come at a significant moment for PSV following Joey Veerman’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund.

PSV are not completely without competition. Ajax have spoken to Geertruida’s representatives, although they have not submitted a bid for a permanent transfer. Feyenoord have likewise shown interest but have not made an offer.

For now, PSV appear to be in the strongest position.

There is, however, one obvious danger: another club could emerge with the willingness to buy Geertruida permanently, provided the player is also attracted by the destination.

That is why the coming days could prove decisive.

If Leipzig finally moves towards the proposed loan arrangement, Geertruida could head directly to Eindhoven. Under normal circumstances, he would be immediately available to play, giving Bosz the defensive reinforcement PSV have been pursuing for much of the summer.
