Sergiño Dest’s future at PSV appears increasingly settled, with Arnold Bruggink stressing just how important the American right-back is to Peter Bosz’s side.

Meanwhile, Valentijn Driessen has raised questions about why the KNVB overlooked Peter Bosz for the Netherlands job.

It looked for some time as though Sergiño Dest could leave PSV during the summer transfer window. The American had previously spoken about wanting to make another significant move abroad, while his contract also contained a transfer clause that could have allowed interested clubs to sign him for a fixed amount.

That situation now appears to have changed.

Following PSV’s 5-1 victory over FC Groningen, ESPN analyst and former PSV midfielder Arnold Bruggink indicated that Dest is increasingly likely to remain in Eindhoven. More importantly, Bruggink believes PSV simply cannot afford to lose a player of his quality.

“For PSV it is essential that he stays. He really must not leave anymore. What you hear a bit is that it won’t happen anymore either, because that clause has expired,” Bruggink said on ESPN, as quoted by PSV Inside.

Bruggink believes Dest offers PSV something unusual from the right-back position, combining attacking ability, pace and the qualities of a playmaker.

“He is a game-changer. Admittedly in a totally different position than you’re used to, but he can outplay someone and has the speed for it. He’s also something of a half-number ten. I think it is super important for PSV that he doesn’t leave anymore. He belongs among the best players in the Eredivisie, if he’s fit,” he added.

With PSV also competing in the Champions League, Bruggink believes Dest has little reason to force a move if the transfer clause is no longer active.

“You don't always have that under your own control. If this is the case, then at PSV he has a fantastic club. He will play in the Champions League, and earn a good salary. Then he has to focus on the next season,” Bruggink said.

Elsewhere, Peter Bosz’s absence from the KNVB’s list of candidates for the position of head coach of the Netherlands has again been discussed following Xavi Hernández’s appointment.

On Vandaag Inside, journalist Valentijn Driessen suggested there could be an issue between Bosz and the football association.

Johan Derksen also raised the possibility of previous disagreements playing a role, while Driessen pointed to Bosz’s outspoken nature and his relationship with officials.

“Peter Bosz is very critical and outspoken, but he also doesn't, for example, shake referees' hands. I find that inappropriate too. That's also rather strange behavior, of course. Maybe that means that at the KNVB they still have a dislike for the way he deals with the football association,” Driessen said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

Driessen also stressed that, in his view, Bosz should have been considered given his experience and achievements.

“You know, namely, that if Koeman can leave, then you also have to keep all options open. Also Peter Bosz. He is experienced, has won a lot, a good age; he was really enthusiastic about it. I think he hasn't been on the list; otherwise you would have approached him,” he said.

For now, Bosz remains focused on PSV, while Dest appears increasingly likely to continue as one of the key figures in his side.
