Can HC Jim Harbaugh's Seat Get Warmer With Another Disappointing Season in LA?
Since Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh become the head man of the team in 2024, the organization has enjoyed back-to-back seasons of 11 wins and two consecutive playoff berths. In both instances, they were defeated very handily (Houston Texans in 2024, New England Patriots in 2025). In 2026, they have a third opportunity to make the playoffs and go deeper than they have before in within the last few years. At some point however, questions are going to get louder about Harbaugh's job performance and why it is that the Chargers are no closer to a championship than when he was first hired.

The Chargers Haven't Won the AFC West since 2009. Is it Time for Change?
The last time the Los Angeles Chargers won the AFC West division was way back in 2009, when they were still in San Diego. Since then, they've finished second-best nine times, third-best three times and last place four times. Even with elite seasons from quarterback Justin Herbert and defensive players like five-time All-Pro safety Derwin James, they've yet to be able to break through and become a serious threat for division supremacy. With the Kansas City Chiefs seemingly en route to regress in 2026, now could be the time for the Chargers to make a legitimate push for the top spot. Then again, their division mates in the Denver Broncos might have something to say about that.

The Chargers Now Have the Most Cap Space in the NFL After Roster Cuts
Bolt Beat's Alex Insdorf reported today that the Los Angeles Chargers just completely reset their financial fortunes with the release of three players. According to Insdorf, "The LA Chargers officially parted ways with three players on Wednesday. Right guard Mekhi Becton, tight end Will Dissly, and tackle Savion Washington were all released by the team prior to the start of free agency." He continued to mention that the move officially brought Los Angeles up to $99.06 million in cap space, which is currently the most in the league. With that development, the Chargers are locked and loaded to make a splash in free agency.

Implications of OL Bradley Bozeman's Retirement
Eighth-year center Bradley Bozeman announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday. He's only 31 years old, and has had tenures with the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers and now Los Angeles Chargers. The Athletic's Daniel Popper recounted the event, as well as the implications of Bozeman's transition in a piece covering general manager Joe Hortiz's news conference from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis yesterday. "Heading into the offseason, the Chargers were already in need of an upgrade at this position. Bozeman was not going to be a fit in new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s scheme. Bozeman also struggled in pass protection over the past two seasons. With Bozeman retiring, the Chargers will initially save close to $6 million in space, according to Over the Cap. More importantly, they do not have a viable starting center on the roster. That is the top priority as the Chargers prepare for free agency."

Could Chargers be an Ideal Fit for WR Tyreek Hill?
Garrett Podell of CBS Sports gave his perspective on the fact that newly released wide receiver Tyreek HIll would make a lot of sense as an all-in move for the Los Angeles Chargers. This is mainly due to the pre-existing relationship between Hill and new Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Podell states, “There's also scheme familiarity: former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel now serves as the Chargers' offensive coordinator. Hill could step into a system he already knows and produce quickly once healthy. Hill even tweeted that McDaniel's move to Los Angeles caught his attention.” Sounds like a sensible strategy for Hill's possible final act in the NFL.

Chargers Add Former Head Coach Adam Gase to Offensive Staff
ESPN's Krim Rhim reports that the Los Angeles Chargers have hired former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase as the overseer of their passing game. Gase was last seen being fired by the Jets in 2020 after a 2-14 season with him at the helm. After a five-season hiatus, Gase rejoins the NFL in hopes of helping the Chargers take the next step toward legitimate Super Bowl contention. The Chargers have already had an eventful offseason, evidenced by their huge hire of the most recent Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator.

Three Chargers That May Be Cut Candidates Ahead of 2026
The Los Angeles Chargers are in a precarious position heading into the 2026 season. After going 11-6 in back-to-back campaigns, Los Angeles is looking for the next big step to be taken under head coach Jim Harbaugh after two disappointing losses in the AFC playoffs. Their off season might begin with cap casualties however, as clutchpoints reported names like right guard Mekhi Becton, center Bradley Bozeman and punter JK Scott as being ideal candidates for the decision. These moves may not move the proverbial "needle", but some reshaping of the roster may do the team some good.

Chargers' re-signing of Defensive Tackle a Signal of Shifting Priorities?
After re-signing defensive tackle Teair Tart to a three-year, $37.5 million extension, the Los Angeles Chargers have an opportunity to now shift their priorities to the offensive side of the ball ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. Specifically, targeting interior offensive line help so as to better facilitate the integration of new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. According to Fansided's "Bolt Beat", Both Bradley Bozeman and Mekhi Becton likely need to be replaced, as they are not truly a fit under McDaniel's scheme. At the end of the first round, Los Angeles could have both Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane and Auburn center Connor Lew available to them."

How Much Would Hiring Mike McDaniel Improve Chargers' Offensive Efficiency?
According to multiple reports, former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is seemingly on his way to becoming the new offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. He would join head coach Jim Harbaugh is fixing an offense that finished the 2025 regular season ranked: 12th in total offense: 333.8 18th in Passing yards per game: 212.2 12th in rushing yards per game: 121.6 20th in points per game: 21.6 In their playoff game against the New England Patriots, they scored only three points in a 16-3 loss. That marked the third time this season where the Chargers scored 10 points or less (vs. Patriots, Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders). That presumably aided in the decision to part ways with former play caller Greg Roman. Do you think McDaniel transforms the offense into a top-five unit next season? Four Candidates to Replace Former Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman
Yesterday, Fansided's "Bolt Beat" published an article listing four candidates they believe should be considered to replace recently fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman. They are as follows: - Mike McDaniel (former Dolphins head coach - Eric Bieniemy (running backs coach, Chicago Bears) - Nate Scheelhaase (passing game coordinator, Los Angeles Rams) - Kliff Kingsbury (former offensive coordinator, Washington Commanders) Is there anyone else that the Chargers should consider? Chargers Quarterback Justin Herbert Still Looking for First Career Playoff Win
This Sunday night, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has the opportunity to finally get the first playoff win of his career against the second-seeded New England Patriots. Herbert has gone winless in his first two attempts, passing for 515 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He did this while averaging a 60.7 passer rating and being part of a team that blew a 27-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2023, and another team with a #1 scoring defense that got blown out 32-12 against the Houston Texans last season. After six NFL seasons, and though it will have to come against the second-best team in the AFC, Herbert must find a way to overcome the odds and prove that he's more than just a "regular season quarterback".

Chargers in Line for Seeding Shakeup Heading Into the AFC Playoffs
The Los Angeles Chargers will reportedly be resting their starters against the Denver Broncos in week 18. With the Broncos still competing with the New England Patriots for the AFC #1 seed, it is very likely that the Chargers will finish their season 11-6. That has Playoff implications, as they are currently the sixth seed. With a loss, and a Buffalo Bills win against the New York Jets, the Chargers will fall to the seventh seed and be slotted to face the Broncos or the Patriots in the Wildcard round (most likely the Patriots, due to Denver holding the tiebreaker advantage over them). Thus, the Chargers look like they're on the way to playing the two best teams in the AFC in back to back weeks to potentially decide the finality of their season. How do you think this turns out for Los Angeles? Let us know in the comments section below.

Justin Herbert And the Chargers Still Face Tall Task Near The End of The Regular Season
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been a man on a mission since he got surgery on his left hand on December 1st. In the four games since, he has led the Chargers to a four-game win streak, 11 wins in total and an outside chance of finishing with the AFC #1 seed. Steep challenges still line the pathway for Herbert and co., as they play their second to last regular season game against the Houston Texans and their league-leading #1 overall defense. Scoring points on Houston's defense will be a tall task, but Herbert has shown up for his team in big moments throughout the whole season. If they are able to topple the Texans, a date for the AFC West lead (and maybe more) awaits them in week 18 vs. the Denver Broncos (the #1 seed).

Chargers Are the Road Favorites Against the Cowboys on Sunday
The Los Angeles Chargers visit the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium, where they seek their 11th win on the season and fourth victory in a row. In the lead up to the contest, USAtoday.com reports that the Chargers are the favorites at -2.5 with a money line of -135 (Cowboys are +2.5, at +114) Getting a win would be impactful for Los Angeles, as it would keep them in the hunt for the #1 seed in the AFC (currently the fifth seed). It would also stave off the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills for another week, as both teams could move up in the AFC standings with a loss by the Chargers. Do think predict a Chargers win this week? At 9-4, The Los Angeles Chargers Face Three Top Defenses Before The Playoffs Begin
The Los Angeles Chargers are currently 9-4 and sit in the fifth seed in the AFC with only four games left in the regular season. After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, the Chargers are facing a four-game stretch of the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. Of those four, three of them rank in the top 10 in total and/or scoring defense (Chiefs, Texans and Broncos). The Bills are the sixth seed, and at 9-4 are tied with the Chargers and would benefit greatly from a slip in the rankings by Los Angeles. The Texans are the seventh seed and are only one game back of the five seed. They could be a threat to knock off the Chargers and grab the tiebreaker advantage when they match up in week 17, thus opening the door for Houston to elevate in the standings at season's end. With a mini-gauntlet on their hands for the last month of the regular season, the Chargers need all the help they can get to not find themselves facing a scenario of being at the bottom of the playoff seedings by the time January rolls around. What record do you think the Chargers finish with? Let us know in the comment section below.

How Will The Chargers Do Over Their Final Five Games?
At 8-4, one would think that the Los Angeles Chargers are sitting pretty in terms of AFC playoff security. However, beneath the surface concerns about for head coach Jim Harbaugh and co. as they face the final five games of their schedule. Throughout December, they face the Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys, Texans and Broncos in a row. One could make the case that the Chargers are in danger of losing all five games for one reason or another. If that happens, the Chargers could finish 8-9 and have serious questions to answer as a franchise. What record do you think the Chargers finish with to end the season? Injury Update: Chargers Have Opened Rookie Running Back Omarion Hampton's Injury Return Window
The Chargers look to be receiving some offensive reinforcements in the form of rookie running back Omarion Hampton. According to various reports, the Chargers' 22nd overall pick out of UNC has had his 21-day practice window officially opened by the team after missing the last six games with an ankle injury. In his five games before injury, the dual threat running back was a productive piece in the Chargers' early success, rushing 66 times for 314 yards and two touchdowns (including a 12 carry, 128 yard, 1 TD performance against the Giants in week four). He also caught 20 of 22 passes for 136 yards, mainly due to a three-game stretch against the Broncos, Giants and Commanders where he caught 17 of 18 balls for 122 yards. If fully reinstated, his first game would come this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

"Inconsistencies Have Defined The Chargers In 2025"
In a piece published today to ESPN, writer Kris Rhim gave an assessment of where the Los Angeles Chargers stand heading into the bye. After a catastrophic 35-6 defeat against the Jaguars, Rhim gave a bleak outlook of a team that came into the season with high hopes in year two of head coach Jim Harbaugh's tenure. "Sunday was another humiliation for the Chargers, who lost 35-6 to the Jaguars, marking the most lopsided loss of the Jim Harbaugh era in Los Angeles. The loss was only surprising to those who haven't closely watched this team, and the beatdown was reflective of the inconsistencies that have defined this Chargers team all season.", expressed Rhim. After 11 weeks of play, the Chargers sit at 7-4, good for second in the AFC West and the sixth seed in the AFC. They began the season with three wins in a row, then lost two straight, alternated a win and loss, went on another three game win streak and finally lost last Sunday's laugher against the Jaguars by 29 points. Rhim also cited a "lack of identity" with the team, referencing last year's dependence on the defense and how that anchored them. Now, whether offense, defense or special teams, the team is looking for answers in a crowded AFC playoff hunt with only six games left to find them. Do you think the Chargers will turn things around in time to secure a playoff spot in time? Or, is there concern that the "bottom falling out" is just on the horizon for Harbaugh's group? Let us know in the comment section below.
