Veteran signal-caller Tyrod Taylor provides elite insurance and stabilizing experience behind Jordan Love for the Green Bay Packers in 2026.

We're officially 22 days from the start of the 2026 NFL season for the Green Bay Packers. Whether you're ready or not, football season is here.

The Packers kick off their 2026 season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Sept. 13, from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Talk about pressure. The Vikings are certainly in a transitional place as a franchise, but getting going against an NFC North foe ratchets up the intensity of this season from the get-go.

It's a big season for the Packers. There's a belief that they're in a Super Bowl window right now, which means every single game is important. That means the intensity will be there in Week 2 at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets and it will certainly be there in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons, when the Packers will play at Lambeau Field for the first time in 2026.

There's going to be a lot of proverbial ink spilled on this 2026 season and we here at PackersRoundtable hope that you spend as much time as possible with us talking about the ins and outs and ups and downs of the Packers.

As we prepare for the 2026 season, though, we're going to kick things off with a rankings series looking at the Top 50 Packers heading into the 2025 season.

At No. 22, we have quarterback Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor is in a very intriguing place for the Green Bay Packers.

On one hand, nobody wants to see him play during the regular season. If he's playing, that means something terrible has happened with starting quarterback Jordan Love. They say that football is a game of inches and the average game can be won or lost on just one or two plays. Even if Taylor has to come in for Love for a series, that can mean the difference between winning and losing.

At the same time, you want to have confidence in your backup quarterback and that's the reason the Packers signed Taylor this offseason. Malik Willis was such a good backup that he's now got the chance to be a starter himself, with Jeff Hafley and the Miami Dolphins.

The Packers had to replace a high-level backup and the best way they could do it was to find a veteran with a ton of starting experience, and that's exactly what Taylor brought to the table.

He's been in the league since 2011 and while he's never been a star, he's been trusted by multiple franchises to be a starter. He has 62 starts in his career, having started games for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, New York Giants and New York Jets.

He's well-travelled, experienced, and most importantly, he knows his main job in Green Bay is to make Love better.

2025 Synopsis:

In six games played with the Jets and in four starts, Taylor completed 80-of-134 passes for 779 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown. He went 1-3 as a starter in New York.

Notable Quotables:

“We’re each other’s eyes when we’re not on the field. Whether it’s looking for certain things while he’s on the field that he may not be able to see before he gets the tablet in his hands. Just keeping the communication as open as possible. Some people love more talkers on the sideline. Some people want things to be quiet. It’s about learning one another.” - Tyrod Taylor

Projected Role in 2026:

The hope is that Taylor will remain a reliable QB2 and never have to play a regular season or playoff snap.
