Does the Robert Jones Signing Now Change the 49ers' Draft Plans for the OL?

Monday, the San Francisco 49ers signed veteran left guard Robert Jones to a deal.  In doing so, Niners Nation writer Kyle Posey believes that it now alters the 49ers' draft plans with the interior portion of the offensive line. He explains,  "This likely takes the 49ers out of the running for an interior offensive lineman in the NFL draft, at least early--if they were ever in that market. Outside of Aaron Banks, history would suggest the 49ers were not going to use their draft capital on an interior offensive lineman. Those picks have been few and far between."Mar 27, 2026

49ers Still Aiming to Keep LT Trent Williams

ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported today that the San Francisco 49ers are still aiming to get a deal done with franchise, great, left tackle Trent Williams. Wagoner explained,  "The San Francisco 49ers' are not exercising the $10 million option bonus on star left tackle Trent Williams' contract that was due Friday afternoon, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Williams' salary cap number now will grow to close to $47 million, but the team is not overly concerned about it and still plans to rework his contract before next month's NFL draft, sources told Schefter."Mar 21, 2026

49ers Now Have a Problem with News that QB Kyler Murray is now a Viking.

According to multiple reports. former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a one-year contract, presumably making him the starter over incumbent J.J. McCarthy. This move has been long speculated on after the Cardinals decided to release Murray. due to the Vikings being in the market to upgrade at the same position.  This is a red flag for the San Francisco 49ers. who now have to deal with an improved version of their conference opponents. If the Vikings do reach another level with Murray under center, the 49ers will have their hands full in competing with another potential playoff contender.Mar 13, 2026

The 49ers Miss Out on Possible Crosby Acquisition

Speculation about the San Francisco 49ers possibly trading for Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby all but ended tonight. News broke this evening about a blockbuster trade involving the three-time All-Pro, with the Baltimore Ravens sending two first-round picks to the Raiders in exchange for Crosby. Yardbarker.com detailed the significance of this to the 49ers by stating,  "After missing out on Crosby, bolstering the pass rush remains a major priority for the 49ers heading into the 2026 season. San Francisco's defense recorded just 20 sacks in 2025—the fewest in the NFL by a wide margin. The 49ers are expected to address the need through both free agency and the draft, even after using three selections on defensive linemen in last year's draft."Mar 7, 2026

QB Mac Jones Will be a 49er Unless a "Can't Refuse" Offer is on the Table

Posted on TheFantasyFootballers.com, an account was shared about the San Francisco 49ers' valuation of backup quarterback Mac Jones. "San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch reiterated the team's desire to keep backup quarterback Mac Jones at the NFL scouting combine on Tuesday, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "He's really good for us, and we value that. And so somebody would have to come with something fairly strong for us to consider (trading him). And then I don't know what we do. Obviously, there's always something that would make you (do it), but I think we're a better team with him on it and we just like having him around," Lynch said."Feb 27, 2026

Would 49ers Make Major QB Trade with Cardinals?

TWSN made an article that shared a possible scenario that would see the Arizona Cardinals making a major trade and acquiring quarterback Mac Jones from the San Francisco 49ers.  This would come as a direct follow up to the hiring of new head coach Mike LaFleur and the pseudo dismissal of incumbent starting quarterback Kyler Murray. Marissa Myers, the author of the scenario, stated, "In the games that Jones had to play in relief of Purdy. Jones led San Francisco to a 5-3 record while completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns with just six interceptions. The ability to run the offense within the structure is exactly what LaFleur needs for his offense to translate to Arizona, especially after working with Matthew Stafford. With Mac Jones he would get the ideal quarterback who is someone he can also build around with Jones being just 27 years old."Feb 21, 2026

49ers and Rams Kick Off Week One in Australia

With the announcement that the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will kick off their seasons against each other in Melbourne, Australia next season, more information has started to leak out regarding the specifics of when the international matchup will take place.  John Ourand of Puck is now reporting that, not only will the matchup take place in week 1, but it will be on either Wednesday, September 9, or Thursday, September 10. Does Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Need a Super Bowl for Validation?

Since the hire of current head coach Kyle Shanahan back in 2017, the San Francisco 49ers have a total record of 82-66 with five postseason trips. Four of them included a Conference Championship game at worst, with two of those years ending in the Super Bowl (both losses, 2019 & 2023). Throughout his tenure, he's had to endure multiple quarterbacks, injury riddles rosters and now disgruntled star receivers. Even still, the 49ers have been one of the model franchises in the NFL since his hire.  However, he has yet win the game's biggest prize as the head man, and that fact might put a bit of a damper on an otherwise all-time great nine-year resume.  Does Shanahan need a Super Bowl to validate his place as one of the game's greatest coaches?Feb 6, 2026

49ers' Yearly Tradition of Defensive Coordinator Searches Lives On With Saleh Exit

Stop us if you've heard this before, but the San Francisco 49ers are in the hunt for another defensive coordinator after theirs departed for a head coaching job elsewhere. This is now the fifth-time in a row for head coach Kyle Shanahan.  According to ESPN, "It's the fifth time in five years the Niners are conducting such a search after Robert Saleh accepted an offer to become the Tennessee Titans' head coach last week." The report continues with Shanahan stating, "I definitely don't like doing this for the fifth year in a row, I really would like to go on vacation, but these D-coordinators keep making me have my family wait and get mad at me for it." 49ers Assistant Coach Gus Bradley Considered "Strong Candidate" to Replace Saleh at Defensive Coordinator

With defensive coordinator Robert Saleh having departed to become the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans, the San Francisco 49ers have to find now his replacement (this is actually their second time replacing Saleh in the last five years). A "strong candidate" seems to already be in house according to reports, that being former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.  According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, "Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed senior assistant Gus Bradley is a strong candidate for the job, calling him the 'obvious' choice". He would inherit a defense ravaged by injuries in 2025.  Also, Bradley's latest stint as a defensive coordinator came from 2022 to 2024 for the Indianapolis Colts.  Should Bradley be the new defensive coordinator in the Bay? The 49ers Are Still Seen As Underdogs Against Seahawks Ahead of Saturday Night

The San Francisco 49ers take on their division brethren in the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow night in an NFC Divisional showdown from Lumen Field.  It will be a rematch of week 18's "winner take all" bout, that saw Seahawks win and clinch the NFC #1 seed in a 13-3 victory over the 49ers.  This time, the 49ers will be the road team that will be looking for the knockout blow.  Even still, the 49ers are seven-point underdogs (ML: +270), which means not many expect them to make it to the Conference Championship round (and by a pretty significant margin).   What are your thoughts? 49ers Are the Underdogs Heading into Sunday Showdown Vs. Eagles

According to CBS Sports, the San Francisco 49ers are currently six-point underdogs (+6) against the Philadelphia Eagles (ML: +225).  CBS goes on to theorize that, according to Draftkings, the 49ers opened at -3.5. However, due to several injury updates regarding both teams, the gap got wider.  Meaning, the 49ers are predicted to have an even tougher outing against the Eagles than previously thought.  The 49ers are winners of four of their last five, while the Eagles have won three of their last five. The #1 Seed in the NFC All Comes Down to Week 18 for 49ers

Currently on a six-game win streak (having won seven of their last eight), the San Francisco 49ers will host the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium for a "winner-take-all" week 18 showdown.  The winner will secure the NFC West in the process. But most importantly, the victor will then head into the postseason as the #1 seed in the entire NFC and have a bye to start the Playoffs.  Head coach Kyle Shanahan and his coaching staff should be commended for putting together one of the greatest displays of organizational endurance in NFL history.  They've battled through key injuries, a tough division and even behind-the-scenes issues with personnel. Through it all, the 49ers continued to display a championship pedigree.  Now, they get to settle things once and for all against the Seahawks in what should be one of the greatest contests of the season.Jan 2, 2026

49ers' Chance to Clinch #1 Seed In the NFC Still Alive Heading Into Week 17 Vs. the Bears

The San Francisco 49ers are two victories away from clinching the #1 seed in the NFC. Along with that would come a bye in the first round of the playoffs, which would be a monumental gift for a franchise that has competed with a skeleton crew for the majority of the regular season. They've won games with Mac Jones at quarterback, without the services of defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner and without wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. According to the graph above (per overthecap.com), the 49ers pay the fourth most money in the NFL to players that unavailable due to injuries and/or personal matters.  Still, head coach Kyle Shanahan has helped orchestrate one of the most successful seasons in spite of harsh circumstances we've ever seen in the history of the league. Quarterback Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears visit Levi's Stadium this Sunday as the penultimate opponent of the season. 49ers Jockeying For NFC Playoff Seeding With Only Three Games Left

After the Seattle Seahawks (12-3) won a 38-37 OT thriller against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers (10-4) find themselves 1.5 games back of leading both the NFC West and NFC as a whole. The Seahawks have only two games left, while the 49ers have three (including week 18 against the Seahawks). If San Francisco has any chance to make significant movements up the conference seeding chart, it would require Seattle dropping at least one of their final two games, and the 49ers winning out.  If that happens, both teams will finish with a 13-4 record. The tiebreaker will then go to San Francisco, due to them having swept the two-game season series against Seattle in the aforementioned "winning out" scenario.  That means, the 49ers have a chance to win their division, as well as make sure the path to the Super Bowl runs through Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California (It's also worth noting that the Los Angeles Rams wouldn't factor in this equation, due to them losing to both the Seahawks and 49ers earlier in the season).  Funny enough, that's where the Super Bowl will be hosted this year (the last time a team played at home in the Super Bowl was 2022's Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals matchup back in 2022, where the Rams were the home team). How Likely Is It For The 49ers To Actually Take The NFC West? The NFC?

The San Francisco 49ers are 9-4 on the season, with games against the Titans, Colts, Bears and Seahawks left on their schedule.  To their benefit, three out of their final four games are at home at Levi's Stadium. This makes a great amount of difference, as they are chasing their fellow NFC West counterparts in the Los Angeles Rams (10-3), who lead the division and conference by one game.  The next two games are against the two-win Titans and the now Philip Rivers-led Indianapolis Colts. That is a chance to secure their 10th and 11th wins on the season.  At that point, they would be hoping for the Rams and Seahawks to have had some hiccups along the way that would open the door for a late-season shot at the NFC West and NFC lead.  Do you think the 49ers have a chance to actually take the NFC West lead? 49ers Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh Expected To Receive Head Coach Interest In Offseason

According to senior NFL Insider Josina Anderson, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is expected to receive interest from at least "two teams" for head coaching vacancies this coming offseason.  After being terminated as head coach of the New York Jets after only five games last season, Saleh has helped to engineer a 49ers defense to 20th overall (335.8 yards/game) who's also eighth in scoring (20.7 points/game).  This is highly significant, seeing as though San Francisco has been without the services of multiple defensive all-pros in lineback Fred Warner and defensive end Nick Bosa.  Saleh is well regarded as a coach in league circles, and is receiving renewed interest after his unceremonious exit from New York last season. Brandon Aiyuk Update: Speculation On Why The 49ers Voided The Contract Guarantees Of Franchise Wide Receiver

According to a piece by Niners Nation writer, Kyle Posey, there has been much speculation over why the San Francisco 49ers decided to void the contract guarantees of franchise wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Citing ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, Posey's report mentioned how the clearing of a $24.9 million option bonus would help in the potential scenario that the team opts to part ways with the receiver at season's end.  The piece continued by referencing a potential source of many of the team's problems with Aiyuk: a refusal by Brandon to attend various team rehab appointments while trying to heal from his major ACL/LCL injury suffered in week seven of last season against the Chiefs.  The voiding of his contract definitely signals a potential end to Aiyuk's tenure in San Francisco, but what team would take him on with what appears to be off-field baggage and a major knee injury?  Let us know your predictions for Aiyuk's offseason in the comment section below. Nov 28, 2025

49ers General Manager John Lynch Comments On Low Sack Number Vs. Cardinals, On The Season

Via San Francisco's KNBR sports radio station, 49ers general manager John Lynch had this to say about his defense's lack of sack numbers against the Cardinals last Sunday:  “I was a little bothered, you throw it 57 times and we’re not able to bring him down. But sacks are a byproduct of being around the quarterback. I thought we did pressure Jacoby Brissett I thought our guys rushed well. We just need to tighten up our details and sacks will start to come.”  His comments come as the 49ers are currently the 32nd (worst) ranked team in the NFL in sack rate with only 12 through 12 weeks of play. To be fair, this is what it looks like when you're missing multiple all-pros and future hall of famers in the absences of defensive stars in defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner.  Is there a way for San Francisco to create more pressure for opposing quarterbacks? Injury Update: 49ers Wide Receiver Ricky Pearsall Confirmed For Sunday Against Cardinals

Provided via the KNBR radio station in San Francisco,  49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is ready to play and will be active this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.  The second-year receiver has been missing since week four with a knee injury, and will be joining starting quarterback Brock Purdy as reinforcements for a team at 6-4 who is currently chasing the Seahawks (7-2) and Rams (7-2) at the top of the NFC West.  Pearsall has been a difference maker for the 49ers offense, eclipsing 100+ yards twice within the first four games of the season prior to his injury. His addition reinvigorates Shanahan's offense and provides even more of a pathway to moving up the NFC playoff ladder, as they are the 8th seed and sit 1.0 game behind the Green Bay Packers at 5-3.  Will his return provide a spark to the 49ers offense?
