While NFL free agency won’t officially begin until the start of the new league year on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m. ET, there was a flurry of moves across the league on Monday when the legal negotiation window opened. That allows teams to agree to terms with impending unrestricted free agents, though they can’t officially sign deals until the start of the league year. Teams are allowed to be in contact and negotiate with certified agents of those players. In addition, a new league rule in 2026 allows teams to directly contact up to five prospective free agents and have one video or phone call with those players, for a maximum of one hour per call, and with their agents present.
