PSV are finding their rhythm at just the right moment.

After dismantling FC Utrecht 6-1, Peter Bosz’s side now turn their attention to Ajax, while the club prepares for another busy few days in the transfer market.

There was little left to question about PSV’s performance at De Galgenwaard on Sunday.

After a sluggish opening to the season, the reigning champions produced the kind of dominant display expected from a team with title ambitions. Utrecht briefly took the lead, but PSV responded emphatically and controlled almost the entire contest from there.

The Eindhoven side spent long periods camped in the opposition half and ultimately ran out convincing 6-1 winners.

One of the biggest positives was Kodai Sano, who is rapidly establishing himself as an influential presence in Bosz’s midfield.

The Japanese midfielder combined defensive work with quality on the ball and again showed why PSV were keen to bring him to Eindhoven.

There were plenty of other strong performers. Noah Fernandez impressed, Guus Til scored twice, while Mauro Júnior and Sergiño Dest provided attacking quality from the full-back positions.

Ruben van Bommel also produced another outstanding moment with a magnificent goal, while Amir Bouhamdi continued to underline his potential. Ivan Perisic, meanwhile, added experience and physical power.

The only obvious blemish came from Ricardo Pepi. The American worked hard but struggled to make an impact, while PSV found it difficult to provide him with the service he needed. On the one occasion Sano found him in a promising position, Pepi's first touch was poor.

That leaves Bosz with a decision ahead of next weekend’s trip to Ajax.

While the football side is beginning to click, PSV’s transfer operation remains in full swing.

PSV have agreed a deal with FC Twente for the permanent return of Sam Lammers, bringing an end to more than a week of negotiations over the striker.

Lammers is undergoing his medical examination at PSV, with the final formalities now standing between the 29-year-old and his return to the club where he began his professional career.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of the Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV will pay approximately €2 million to FC Twente for Lammers.

There is also a financial twist to the deal. Under solidarity rules, PSV are entitled to just over four per cent of Lammers' transfer fee, which amounts to roughly €80,000 being deducted from the overall cost. Willem II are also set to receive around €5,000.

Ayoni Santos is also expected to arrive from Sparta once the remaining details are completed.

The club could therefore add three or four more players before the window closes.

Rik Elfrink reported that there was also contact regarding Malik Tillman, who has endured a difficult period at Bayer Leverkusen following his move from PSV. A reunion would be complicated, however. PSV can only realistically pursue a loan, and Leverkusen made it clear last week that they would not consider that option.

Still, the interest underlines PSV’s ambition in the closing stages of the window.

Joël van den Berg is expected to leave Eindhoven after Celtic made an offer for the 19-year-old. The Scottish club could pay around €4 million if they complete the transfer in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the situations surrounding Dennis Man and Kiliann Sildillia have also attracted attention.

Man is now unlikely to leave PSV, while the club has rejected the possibility of loaning Sildillia despite interest from abroad.

There is also some activity surrounding Esmir Bajraktarevic, although no club has yet submitted a formal offer for the winger.  

PSV are simultaneously negotiating with Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt over 17-year-old striker Mikkel Bro Hansen. Talks for the Danish talent remain ongoing, with PSV hoping to reach an agreement over a multi-million-euro transfer fee.

Another notable aspect of Sunday's victory was Bosz's decision not to use Lutsharel Geertruida from the start.

Instead, he kept Armando Obispo and Ryan Flamingo at centre-back. After a nervous opening, the pair settled, and Utrecht created virtually nothing as PSV took control.

At the other end, Bosz's attacking quartet of Van Bommel, Til, Perisic and Pepi continually stretched the home defence.

The 6-1 victory followed a 5-1 win over Groningen, but Bosz will know that the real test comes next.

PSV now face Ajax away from home, with both clubs still strengthening their squads.

Two emphatic victories have inevitably raised expectations, but the Amsterdam trip represents a very different challenge. Bosz's side cannot afford to assume that their recent form guarantees another victory.

For now, however, PSV have given themselves an ideal platform to build on. The performances are improving, the new arrivals are settling quickly and the club is still working on further additions.

The next few days could therefore be just as significant off the pitch as Sunday's statement was on it.
